Online Registration for TCKC Summer 2025 Class Session

All of our classes are limited to 10 students. We ask that you continue to social distance while at the TCKC Training Facility.

- If classes are filled please use the WAIT LIST as we do have on occasion individuals that may decide to not attend after signing up.

- EVALUATION NIGHT FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION - Tuesday, March 25, 2025. You will receive two confirmation emails.

1. You will receive one the week after online registration closes that you are listed to be in the class you signed up for.
2. You will receive a more detailed email a few days after online registration closes about Evaluation Night . If you do not see a confirmation email by 3/22/25, please reach out to confirm your spot.

Please note that NOT ALL of the classes will be offered for the SPRING 2025 SESSION. The offered classes are the only ones listed for online registration. If you don't see one of the specific classes offered then we are either filled or not offering it this session.

We want to be sure that you are signing up for the correct class online. We pride ourselves on placing the dog/handler in the proper class so that you and your dog will feel secure and confident with your abilities while in class.

TYPES OF CLASSES OFFERED

We offer obedience classes for you and your canine from eight weeks of age and beyond. Our skilled training staff will provide techniques to help you train your dog to be outstanding home companions, obedience competitors, and rally and agility teammates. Using positive reinforcement training techniques, you will forge a strong working relationship with your dog.

Rally is a sport in which a dog and handler compete to demonstrate their team’s ability to perform basic obedience exercises. A judge will design a course, which is a sequence of obedience tasks to be performed by each team in turn.

Competition Obedience is a sport where a dog and handler participate in Obedience Trials to demonstrate the team’s ability to follow specified exercise routines in the ring. All participants follow the same routine, and are required to perform the exercises according to specific judging criteria so the various performances may be compared against a standard and then scored.

Agility is a sport that appeals to all dog lovers – from young people to senior citizens. It has great spectator appeal. Agility is designed to demonstrate a dog’s willingness to work with its handler in a variety of situations. It is an athletic event that requires conditioning, concentration, training and teamwork. Dog and handlers negotiate an obstacle course racing against the clock.

PUPPY LIFE SKILLS

This entry level class is targeted towards puppies 8 weeks to 6 months ~ AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Certified Class

Lessons are structured to fit the shorter attention span of puppies while providing the basic obedience skills so the puppy can become a sociable puppy that is gentle and mannerly.

For puppies younger than 6 months of age at the start of classes

K9 LIFE SKILLS 1

This entry level class is targeted for dogs 6 months and older that have had little or no prior obedience training.

Development of basic commands (sit, down, stays, etc.) and social handling will help strengthen trust between the dog and handler

For dogs 6 months and older at the start of classes

K9 LIFE SKILLS 2

This class is designed for dogs that have COMPLETED AN ENTRY LEVEL OBEDIENCE CLASS.

Dogs that have some basic obedience will continue to build on and refine their skills in this class. Sits, downs, stays, turns, circles, attention and doodling exercises will be included in lessons taught. This class is good training for pet dogs as well as dogs and handlers who plan to compete in a variety of dog sports.

K9 LIFE SKILLS 3

This class is designed for dogs that want to continue with their obedience and solidify skills such as sit, down, stand, stays, heeling and recalls will benefit from this class ~ AKC Canine Good Citizen Preparatory Class.

Handler/dog teams will refine footwork, turns, more distractions in heeling and also leaving and returning to their dogs. They will be taught all the requirements for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test and have the opportunity to take the test the week following the end of classes.

ADVANCED OBEDIENCE

The Advanced class is for dog/handler teams who have completed Life Skills 3 or have the permission of the Director of Training.

Students in the Advanced class will continue building their relationship with their dog, solidify, expand, and refine skills learned in previous classes, and learn fun new skills. Exercises will emphasize attention, recalls, stays, and front and heel positions. Jumps and the basics of jumping will be introduced.

AKC TRICKS CLASS

In the AKC Tricks class, Novice and Intermediate tricks from the AKC Trick Dog program will be taught. Handlers and dogs will build their relationship by learning tricks in a positive and fun way. Handlers will acquire a better understanding about how their dogs think and how to better communicate cues to their dogs. Various methods of prompting behaviors will be presented to help handlers teach tricks to their dogs.

Handler/dog teams will have the opportunity to be tested by a CGC evaluator for both AKC Novice Trick Dog and AKC Intermediate Trick Dog titles during the class session.

Prerequisites: Handlers and their dogs should have completed Life Skills 3 class or have approval of a Tricks class trainer. Dogs should be at least 1 year old.

RALLY

RALLY AKC/UKC NOVICE

This class is designed for those new to the sport of Rally Obedience.

This class will cover the rules and regulations in AKC and UKC Rally Obedience, as well as the novice level exercises while going through designed courses. This class encourages building teamwork between dog and handler. All exercises are performed on leash.

Prerequisites: CGC

RALLY AKC/UKC ADVANCED/EXCELLENT

This class continues to encourage building teamwork between dog and handler in the sport of Rally.

This class will focus on the advanced and excellent exercises in AKC and UKC Rally Obedience while going through designed courses. All exercises are performed off leash.

Prerequisites: Rally ACK/UKC Novice

WORLD CYNOSPORT RALLY (WCR) LEVEL 1

This class will cover the rules and regulations in World Cynosport Rally Obedience, as well as the level 1 exercises while going through designed courses. This class encourages building teamwork between dog and handler. All exercises are performed on leash.

Prerequisites: CGC

WORLD CYNOSPORT RALLY (WCR) LEVEL 2/3

This class will focus on the level 2 and level 3 exercises in World Cynosport Rally Obedience while going through designed courses. This class continues to encourage building teamwork between dog and handler. Off leash work on courses is optional in this class.

"FUN" DAMENTALS

This class is designed to develop your dog’s “WANT TO” and “HOW TO” while training attention, enthusiasm and confidence.

Exercises will be taught as “tricks” using a variety of maneuvers in a FUN setting!

Prerequisites: Dog needs to know basic obedience commands, AND be evaluated by the Competition Obedience Coordinator to determine if the dog and handler can perform the needed skills for each class.

NOVICE CONCEPTS

This class is designed to continue where “FUN” damentals left off!

Focus will be on heeling, recall and stay components along with additional maneuvers. The same method of developing your dog’s “WANT TO” and “HOW TO” will be used to teach these skills, making it a fun learning experience for both dog and handler. The skills learned in this class are also beneficial for participation in other dog sports classes.

COMPETITION CONCEPTS

This class is designed to focus on heeling, recall and stay sequences for all levels of competition obedience.

This class is to polish, maintain and problem-solve dog and handler training issues. This teaching method will be used to sharpen the components learned in the previous classes.

BEGINNER NOVICE RING READY

This class is designed to prepare the dog and handler for the Beginner Novice Optional Titling Class offered by the American Kennel Club (AKC), the United Kennel Club (UKC) and the Companion Dog Sports Program (CDSP).

AGILITY FUNDAMENTALS 1

This is our entry-level agility class designed for those new to the sport of Agility.

The goal of the Fundamental Agility class is to teach the dog/handler team the proper identification and execution of each piece of AKC agility equipment, with special emphasis placed on dog safety. Coursework will not be covered in this class. Focus will be on learning the individual pieces of equipment and the proper handling techniques to get your dog to perform each obstacle. Variety of 2-obstacle sequences are learned and completed.

AGILITY FUNDAMENTALS 2

This is the second part of our entry-level agility class designed for those new to the sport of Agility.

These 2 classes are designed for dogs that are new to agility and should be taken consecutively. The goal of the Fundamental Agility class is to teach the dog/handler team the proper identification and execution of each piece of AKC agility equipment, with special emphasis placed on dog safety. Coursework will not be covered in this class. Focus will be on learning the individual pieces of equipment and the proper handling techniques to get your dog to perform each obstacle. Variety of 2-obstacle sequences are learned and completed.

This class is designed to develop skills to perform short sequences between the dog/handler team on the AKC agility equipment.

All skills from previous classes are used as teams work exercises to increase dog’s confidence and ability. Beginning coursework will be covered in this class. Specific handling skills and common obstacle formations are introduced and multi-obstacle sequences are completed. Focus will be on rewarding the proper performance of all obstacles. Dogs perform most exercises off-lead.

INTERMEDIATE AGILITY

This class is designed to continue the progression learned in the Agility Fundamentals classes, with special emphasis placed on dog safety.

Dog/handler teams should be able to perform short sequences on the AKC agility equipment. Additional handling skills are introduced and then used in multi-obstacle sequences. Focus is on offset weave pole entries and common obstacle/jump formations and sequences. Flatwork and intermediated coursework will be covered in this class. Attention is given to rewarding the proper performance of all obstacles. Students are encouraged to begin course handling strategy.

ADVANCED AGILITY

This class is designed to continue the progression learned in Intermediate Agility, with special emphasis placed on dog safety.

Dog/handler teams should be able to perform short sequences on the AKC agility equipment. Flatwork and advanced coursework will be covered in this class. Focus will be on rewarding the proper performance of all obstacles and execution of advanced handling skills.

AGILITY DRILLS

This class is designed to continue the progression learned in Advanced Agility to perform more complex sequences between dog/handler team on AKC agility equipment, with special emphasis placed on dog safety.

Teams have the opportunity to work a specific handling skill in a brief, muti-obstacle drill – usually a jump sequence. This provides teams with the advantage of doing several repetitions of the same sequence. In addition, there is a “mini course” which contains obstacles, tunnels, weaves, etc. that students complete multiple times. The final exercise is to combine the two sections. Students must bring crates for their dogs.

AGILITY SEQUENCING

This class is designed to continue the progression learned in Intermediate and Advanced Agility to perform more complex sequences between dog/handler team on AKC agility equipment, with special emphasis placed on dog safety.

Dogs must be able to successfully perform twelve straight-line weave poles. Each class will offer a specific handling skill which is contained in 3-4 separate multi-obstacle sequences. Teams will complete each sequence separately and then they will be combined into a full course for teams to run as the final exercise of each class. Teams should be competing in agility venues or complete previous agility classes. Crates are required.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is my registration complete after I sign up online?

No. Dogs will need to be evaluated in person and registrants will need to submit payment before your registration is finalized.

You will be notified via email of the date and time of your MANDATORY in-person evaluation night.

Please bring the following that night to FINALIZE your registration:

• Your dog
• Your dog’s proof of shots/titers from your veterinarian

• Check or Cash -- We do not accept credit or debit cards.
• Each 8 week class is $105

Why do I have to come in with my dog to be evaluated?

Town and Country Kennel Club prides itself on taking the extra step to properly place the dog/handler team in the proper class. We realize that each dog and handler has special and unique qualities - we want to make certain that proper class placement occurs so that each dog/handler team can feel secure and confident with their abilities while in class.

How many dogs are in a class?

We limit the class size to 10 dogs. We feel that this is the optimal number of dogs to receive individualized attention from the trainers. We have at least 2 trainers in each class and helpers that are available to help when needed.

How long are the classes and what is the cost?

Classes are 45 minutes in duration and are held once a week in our climate controlled facility.

Each session lasts for 8 weeks (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall sessions)

Cost is $105 for the 8 week session.

What if my friend and I want to be in the same class?

There is no guarantee that you and your friend will be in the same class with our new ONLINE ONLY registration system. If you both sign up as soon as the online registration system is open - there will be a greater chance that you will both be able to secure a registration spot for the class you both want in the upcoming session.

Can two dogs from the same family be in the same class?

We do not recommend that two dogs from the same family be in the same class because the dogs tend to focus more on each other than what is being taught in class. Our classes are geared toward focused learning rather than socialization. We recommend that you take a class with each of your dogs individually and focus on building a bond with each dog separately.
