Event description
A conversation between former Wall Street Journal wine columnists Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher and author Karen MacNeil

About this Event

Join the UC Davis Library for an evening in Napa with former Wall Street Journal wine columnists Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher.

  • 4:30-5:30 p.m. - Registration and reception with light hors d'oeuvres
  • 5:30-7:00 p.m. - Program featuring Gaiter and Brecher in conversation with Karen MacNeil, author of The Wine Bible and creator and editor of WineSpeed

Gaiter and Brecher will reflect on their storied 45-year career in journalism, including:

  • Writing their Wall Street Journal wine column, Tastings, and four books together;
  • How they have seen the wine industry change in their 20 years of writing about wine; and
  • The inspiration for Open That Bottle Night, an annual tradition created by Gaiter and Brecher that has engaged wine lovers on the last Saturday of February since 1999.

The UC Davis Library is proud to add the collection of Gaiter and Brecher's writing on wine to the library’s Warren Winiarski Wine Writer Collection, and to host them for this special evening.
