Event description

Description

The 2017 Tasmanian Landcare gathering will be held on Saturday 2 December. Its a great opportunity to meet local landcarers, see their work and celebrate the best ideas in Tasmanian Landcare.

This year instead of a conference we are hosting four fun and exciting field trips, followed by lunch and presentation of the Tasmanian Landcare Awards. Each field trip will start from a central location in Launceston. Each field trip will have a different theme and itinerary, visiting local Landcare sites and the people who care for them. There will be walks and talks at several stops along the way, and morning tea.

Several businesses and organisation are generously providing attendence sponsorship, click here to have your attendence sponsored!

The day will end with a delicious lunch to celebrate the Tasmanian Landcare Awards at the renowned Josef Chromy vineyard in Relbia.

Westbury Restoration Projects Field trip one

Learn about how they’ve controlled weeds, prevented erosion, restored a river and wetland and how they have received and used grants to complete these two projects.

Trevallyn and Youngtown Field trip two

Start with the little ones. Well, they’ve done just that at Youngtown Primary. Walk through multi-year plantings that have transformed and enabled many school children to see big change over time. Meet the managers of this project and hear about the creative ways of getting the work done.
Visit the Trevallyn Reserve and learn about controlling weeds, fuel reduction burns, mountain bike tracks and walking trails and explore the complexities of managing a dry forest reserve near residential areas.

West Tamar Field trip three

Take a walk into the Tamar Wetlands, take in the sites, sounds and smells. Volunteers will take you on a guided walk and discuss wetland ecology, birds, bugs and the pest fish species Gambusia..
Visit the Supply River and hear about the local group’s vision that is transforming the catchment through willow and erosion control and riparian restoration. Enjoy the native bush and hear inspiring stories from the volunteers that have made these projects possible.
