Event description
The inaugural LGR Symposium aims to facilitate and accelerate collaborations between GSK and UC scientists and clinicians.

About this Event

In the summer of 2019 the University of California (UC) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced a 5-year collaboration to establish a state-of-the-art Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR) at the Mission Bay campus.

The LGR is dedicated to developing and deploying CRISPR technologies to accelerate the discovery of fundamental mechanisms via which genetic changes cause human disease, and to fully enable genome-driven development of new medicines. Building on the joint translational research effort between the two UC campuses exemplified by the Innovative Genomics Institute, the LGR aims to be a one-of-a-kind environment for collaboration between scientists and physicians at UCSF / UC Berkeley and GSK.

The inaugural LGR Symposium, to be held at Mission Bay on Oct 31, is entitled “Targets and Medicines in the Age of CRISPR,” and aims to facilitate and accelerate such collaborations. The Symposium will open with scientific presentations by GSK and IGI leadership (Hal Barron, Jennifer Doudna, Tony Wood, and Jonathan Weissman), and will feature talks from a number of leading GSK and UC scientists and clinicians focused on accelerating the vision of a genetics- and genomics-powered medicine.
