Targeted Clinical Interventions in Couples Therapy which Facilitate Connectedness and Growth

Dr. Massey- Hastings is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist whose area of expertise is in the clinical assessment and treatment of children, families, couples, and trauma.

She is the owner of a private practice in Hinsdale, Illinois where she treats patients throughout the lifespan, with a specific focus on relationships systems, and is a Clinical Supervisor. She volunteers her time on several Clinical Research Project committees for doctoral student related to research projects she and Dr. Mudita Rastogi are co-leading on the phenomenology of family formation decisions.

She has created and taught a specialized elective course, has published several articles, and received the Distinguished Graduate Student Prize from the Society of Reproductive and Infant Psychology in 2012 for her Clinical Research Project. She was honored to win the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2015. She earned her Doctor of Psychology degree and her Master’s degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Schaumburg (ISPP). During her time at ISPP, she served as a Teaching Assistant for several core classes. She was the recipient of the Graduate Academic Scholarship at ISPP in 2010. She graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago with her bachelor’s degree prior to entering ISPP. She is an avid research and speaker.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Attendees will be able to list two main theoretical and clinical foci of clinical interactions with couple dyads.

2. Attendees will be able to identify two personal countertransference issues in working with couple dyads.

3. Attendees will identify ways they can analyze, track, and restructure interaction patterns within the couple dyads.

4. Attendees will be able to define resilience, explain resilience to couples, and identify ways to facilitate resilience in couple dyads.

5. Attendees will describe interventions that help couples turn towards one another
