Tango-inspired Blues and AltDancing with Ruth and Mike
Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM (PST)

Expand your Blues and other partner dancing by adapting technique and vocabulary from Argentine Tango. We'll cover a wide range of material from in-depth and detailed technique to flashy moves. We have taught this material around the country and are excited to bring it to the Bay Area. Legs will fly! We'll also explore transferring the dance techniques to fit other music that you'd hear at your favorite fusion dances.

Warm-up and Registration begin at 1. Classes start promptly at 1:15.

Ruth and Mike are full-time dance nomads, teaching together internationally. Blues, Lindy, AltDancing, and Tango head up their dance obsessions, though they are known to dabble (or more) in many other dance forms. They both love carrot juice and philosophical discussions but differ on the use of the oxford comma (One of them won for this paragraph.). They also have been known to swing out in grocery store lines, dance in close embrace down the sidewalk, and plank on moose statues.
Mike Grosser reluctantly started social dancing in college when a couple of his friends persuaded him to do some ballroom east coast swing in their dorm social lounge. A few years later in 2008, Mike discovered Lindy Hop and Blues and quickly got hooked. Since then, he has danced his way around the United States and learned from dozens of instructors. Mike loves communicating concepts to his students and watching them grow their abilities before his eyes. He strives to put himself in his students’ shoes so that he can explain techniques as intuitively and thoroughly as possible.
Ruth Hoffman skipped into her first dance class more than 25 years ago, and has since been dancing as many styles as she can get her feet on. Passionate about teaching, and with over 14 years of experience, she brings a balance of silly fun and precision. Ruth is known for her teaching adaptability in group classes and private lessons, crafting explanations to fit students’ learning styles. She has a long-standing love affair with close-embrace connection, and is curating a fine collection of fishtail variations.
