Description

Celebrate National Estuaries Week with us!!

From a stagnant poster child for pollution that was once featured on the TV show “60 Minutes” to a national model for success in regional cooperation, this engaging presentation chronicles the journey of Tampa Bay from ruin to recovery. As we celebrate National Estuaries Week, audience members will take a whirlwind history tour of our own “estuary of national significance” and learn about some of the fascinating creatures that live in, on and around our region’s signature waterway. Participants will also be invited to test their “Tampa Bay IQ” with our fun trivia challenge.

Presentation given by Andy Fairbanks

Andy Fairbanks is Communications & Outreach Coordinator for the Tampa Bay Estuary Program. He has been an environmental educator since 1997 starting at Martin County's Environmental Studies Center, and a policy wonk since 2000 starting at the City of Jacksonville’s Solid Waste & Resource Management department. He holds degrees from the universities of North Florida (B.A.) and South Florida (M.L.A., Florida Studies Program). Fairbanks is also a wildland firefighter who worked for Hillsborough County's Conservation & Environmental Lands Management department from 2014-2018, and he will be teaching Outdoor Leadership at USF in 2019.
