Description

The Tampa Bay Breastfeeding Task Force aims to improve community health by promoting, supporting, and protecting breastfeeding. Our conference covers a broad range of topics, relevant to a variety of Maternal and Child Health fields. We encourage Nurses, Community Health Workers, Doulas, Case Managers, Child Care personnel, Pediatricians, Registered Dieticians, Educators, Students and more to attend!

Continuing Education Credit:

RN CEs (often can be submitted for CLC and doula continuing education credits -- Check with your certifying agency)

6 Contact Hours will be awarded for this program. CE Broker program number#20-633302

Tampa General is an Approved Providers for the Florida Board of Nursing and multiple

other boards or Councils (Provider #50-1943). Contact hours are approved by Florida Board of Nursing.

This program has been approved for both Nursing and CNA contact hours.

In order to receive CE, the participant must attend the entire program and complete the program evaluation.

No partial credit will be given.

Objectives:

Describe the obstacles faced related to lactation in areas of natural disaster and political refuge and how humanitarian efforts can improve breastfeeding for families in these situations.

Describe steps taken by the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC) Mother's Own Milk (MOM) statewide quality initiative to improve mother’s own milk (MOM) use for very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants.

Identify opportunities to reframe and reflect on interactions with clients to increase positive interactions with non-compliant clients using the Touchpoints philosophy.

Explain the "Access LARC" FPQC Initiative and the research recommendations regarding immediate postpartum LARC and breastfeeding.

Describe the history of the "I pump for my NICU Baby" campaign and discuss the implications for nursing practices to continue program success.

Review scientific research on human milk immunity and suggest best practices for communicating scientific research about breastfeeding to the public.

Describe the history of the World Health Organization's International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and how it relates to current workplace ethics.

Describe the impact of prenatal breastfeeding education on breastfeeding knowledge and infant feeding intention in a diverse, low-Income population.

Explore “Breastfeeding in the Public Arena” confronting ongoing issues of race and class in America.
