Description

Taming the Monsters of Fear, Anxiety and Worry – Saturday 14 October 2017

Most of us live with a continuous low-grade anxiety and worry. Often it can be the small things, but they nag, simmering in our souls and hovering in the back of our minds, robbing our peace, our joy and even our sleep. These monsters make the imagination run wild, dull our creativity and drain our energy. We can even start to believe that worry is somehow helpful. It can be such a part of our life that we cease to realise the extent of how much it robs us. This workshop looks at the roots and the neuroscience of anxiety, fears and panic attacks, and how they impact our everyday lives. You will be equipped with understanding and tools to manage and tame them.

Topics include:

Separation anxiety and its roots; Panic attacks – help!; Anxiety and the brain and the body; How to change our thinking, Introduction to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT); God’s love – the antidote to fear and anxiety.

What is the School of Emotional and Spiritual Health?

The School of Emotional and Spiritual Health (SESH) provides a series of one-day workshops to equip you for living an authentic and vibrant spiritual life, so that you will live well and love well. It offers practical tools for understanding the emotional life and the spiritual life and looks at how these impact each other.

Jesus said, “Whoever believes in Me, rivers of living water will flow from within” (John 7:37-39). Yet so often this can feel like a trickle. What is blocking the rivers? SESH helps you to identify the blocks, to find a way to face unresolved issues, and to catch hold of faulty thinking. Could my past be sabotaging my present, my confidence, my relationships? As regards difficult emotions or conflict, why do I (or they) react and behave this way? And what on earth am I to do about it?

In a safe and professional environment you can find the courage to lift the lid off your life in order to have a look inside and also find tools to bring lasting change.

What is involved?

Each day includes topics on emotional and spiritual health and growth, with teaching and practical exercises alone and within small groups.

Who is it for?

It is for anyone longing to find answers to the question, “Why am I the way I am?” and who has the courage and willingness to come and explore the answers. It is suitable for young people, mature people, those involved in caring for others including pastors and counsellors, and for anyone who wants to develop their own emotional and spiritual life.
