This training provides an overview of the challenges associated with having difficult conversations with child welfare-involved children and youth. Participants will explore the reasons why adults feel uncomfortable talking to children about hard topics, and will get guidance on how to manage their own discomfort and become more comfortable with the subject matter. Participants will walk away from the training with a toolbox of techniques and skills to use when talking to youngsters about tough subjects.
Course presenter: Maris H. Blechner, M Ed, LCSW is an adoption specialist with many years as an educator in the United States and Canada, also doing hands-on adoption work. She is presently an adjunct instructor at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City, and does clinical and administrative consultation, as well as keynotes, conference presentations, and national webinars.
