Talking In Circles: The Practice of Listening and Responding
Mon, April 10, 2017, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM EDT
Facilitated by Matthew Lyon.
It seems so basic, the simplest thing ever, to be in conversation. But how often have you left a conversation feeling like you were not really heard, that you still don't know what they were trying to say, or that the conversation was more a series of reactions at, and not responses to, each other - that you've been talking in circles.
In this six week class, you are invited to deepen your practice of listening and of responding with greater intention. Utilising The Circle Way as a guiding practice, this class will draw on the teachings of David Bohm, Margaret Wheatley, Juanita Brown and others to equip you with practices and techniques useful with family, at the workplace, and in all of your other conversations.
Matthew has been talking for many years now. It's only recently that he has begun to understand the complex work of listening, due in part to training at the St. Ethelburga Centre for Reconciliation and Peace, London, and through Art of Hosting workshops in NYC. As The Hive's Event Coordinator, Matthew has a particular passion for how deep listening expands our capacity to offer the sacred gift of belonging.
