Talking About Race: How to Start and Stay in the Conversation
Event Information
About this Event
Ready to talk about race but don't know where to start? This workshop is an introduction for beginning the conversation, specifically for White allies and co-liberators. You may find that as you begin to lean into anti-racism work and talk about race, these can be challenging and uncomfortable conversations. In fact, there's a term called White fragility, which refers to the extreme discomfort felt by White folks when talking about race. This often results in defensiveness, a state of overwhelm and shut down, and inability to continue engaging in the conversation. We need you in the conversation, grounded and ready to engage despite the discomfort.
I will share embodiment practices and self-soothing techniques to help build capacity for difficult conversations. Additionally, you'll leave this workshop with tangible tools to support you talking about race including conversation guides, educational tools, and recommended readings.
