The Maryland Commission for Women is holding a series of public forums across the state: Voices of Maryland Women. We are pleased to announce that a forum will be held on November 17, 2016, in partnership with the Calvert County Commission for Women, in Prince Frederick.
We want to hear from the women of Maryland, in their own words, about the needs and concerns they face in their everyday lives. We will develop a report with recommendations for improvements in programs, legislation and policies that impact the lives of Maryland women from the Western Panhandle to the Eastern Shore.
Maryland women across the region are invited to speak to the state Commission for Women and their county Commisison for Women about the challenges they face, as women, and what would make their lives better.
Come talk to us!
First established in 1965, the Maryland Commission for Women was set in state law in 1971. An office within the Department of Human Resources, the Commission is a 25-member advisory board whose duties outlined in its enabling legislation include: study the status of women in our state, recommend methods of overcoming discrimination, recognize women's accomplishments and contributions, and provide informed advice to the executive and legislative branches of government on the issues concerning the women of our state. Commissioners are appointed to four-year terms by the Governor, with confirmation by the Maryland State Senate, and serve without compensation.
