Event description

Description

Two Talks.

1. Baroness Elsa, the boundary-breaking Queen of Dada and poet, shocked, entertained and astonished people in the early 1900s with her radical avant garde art practices that blurred art and everyday life. She was a proto punk artist and arguably a proto clown who contested the 'norms' for early twentieth-century women. Tragically she died alone and penniless, unlike her contemporary allies Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray. Hear more about this remarkable and inspirational woman in an edgy and entertaining performance lecture by Dr Maggie Irving.

2. Joseph Beuys, enigmatic German Fluxus performance artist, sculptor, installation artist, graphic artist, art theorist, and pedagogue. Andy Warhol said of this highly controversial artist: ‘He should come to the U.S...that would be great....he should be president’!

In a multimedia presentation, Cliff Gorman discusses the work of this extraordinary playful, boundary-breaking man in the second of two lectures at Exmouth's inaugural comedy art exhibition ‘WooHoo’.
