Event Details

Expert Tech is hosting a morning of discussion to highlight training and job opportunites in Advanced Manufacturing. Advanced Manufacturing industries in Michigan and across the United States are experiencing tremendous growth with optimistic projections for 2014 and beyond. However, a major threat to this growth is the well-documented shortage of Skilled-Labor. If something isn't done to address the talent-gap, our workforce will not be prepared to capitalize on this opportunity. Face it, our workforce is getting older and the best and brightest young people of today are not aware of the opportunities available in Advanced Manufacturing.

Expert Tech is proud to feature several engaging speakers, all offering extensive information important to Recruiting, Training & Retaining Skilled Labor. Speakers will include the following:

Laurie Harbour, President and CEO of Harbour Results, Inc.

Laurie is a well-known expert in the automotive tooling industry and recently her organization Harbour Results, Inc., released the 2013 Automotive Vendor Tooling Study that documents the state of the automotive tooling industry along with the best practices of the OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and tool suppliers of this industry. Laurie will present information from this study and highlight the demand for tooling into the future and illustrates just how strong and viable this North American tooling industry is particularly in the State of Michigan. She will talk extensively about the skilled labor gap in the industry along with the extensive loss of experience the industry has suffered from and share the findings in this area from the Tooling Study. Additionally, she will talk about what the best are doing to solve this problem and who they are working with to gain a stronger foothold on the future strength of their workforce. Laurie is a powerful speaker and this presentation is a must see event.

Ryan Pohl, President of Expert Tech

Since 2008, Expert Tech has been engaged in the Blue Collar Revolution. As a "training and placement" company, Expert Tech has taken on the challenge of Changing the Perception. Expert Tech is devoted to raising awareness of the opportunities available in the Skilled Trades, specifically Advanced Manufacturing. Expert Tech has trained and placed over 100 people into great paying careers -- without the burden of college debt! In his talk, Ryan will discuss the Expert Tech screening and training program to show how this unique approach ensures employers are getting self-driven, loyal, dedicated, confident and accountable people with the mechanical aptitude and mental attitude to be successful for a long-term career in Advanced Manufacturing.

Dan Vermeesch, Plant Manager of Micron Manufacturing

Dan is the lean champion, plant manager and management team lead at Micron Mfg Co, a small, family-owned precision machined products company.  He has a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Tech University. Prior to joining Micron in 1996 he worked in the aerospace and commercial electronics industries.  Dan currently serves on the Management Update Committee for the Precision Machined Products Association and is a member of the Michigan Lean Consortium (MLC) advisory board. Despite all of the above, Dan learned everything he knows about Lean, management and leadership while growing up in the potato fields of the family farm.  Dan will be discussing Micron's efforts and successes to resolve their skilled labor talent gap.
