TSNE MissionWorks' Better Nonprofit Management Training Series runs from October 2019 to June 2020.

Join us this year as we present workshops on essentials issues in nonprofit management such as supervision, financial management, fundraising, communications, and more! We have trained more than 3,000 nonprofit professionals on the skills needed to take the lead in their work and their careers.

Workshop Description

A successful fundraising program is as much about knowing your donors as it is about achieving financial goals. The bottom line is that you MUST talk about money with your donors in order to both know them and to ask for the right gift to match their charitable goals with your organizational needs.

Join TSNE MissionWorks’ highly-rated trainers Jenn Hayslett and Anne Peyton, CPF CFRE for an interactive and engaging day of practice in “listening the gift” and the “art of the ask.” You will learn best practices and develop the skills involved in donor-centered fundraising conversations.

Learning Objectives

Through the training you will practice and gain comfort in direct and meaningful fundraising conversations by:

  • Developing donor strategies for establishing or expanding five significant programs: annual fund giving, leadership giving, monthly giving, funding a specific project, and a bequest program.
  • Learning the “Arc of the Ask” as a model for designing and managing intentional conversations and direct practice of listening skills.
  • Receiving feedback in your practice conversations to improve your listening and asking skills.
  • Writing donor-centered thank you letters.
  • Engaging your Executive Director and board members in fundraising and development practices.

Target Audience

Executive directors, nonprofit staff members, and board members who want to strengthen fundraising skills and knowledge. This program gives those seeking a comprehensive overview for making direct solicitations.

About the Trainers

Jenn Hayslett is a creative development professional with 25 years of leadership experience as a community organizer, marketer, teacher, fundraiser, and coach, working with individuals and nonprofits.
Jenn’s deep fundraising experience includes heading capital campaigns, management of annual funds, leading major gifts efforts, designing donor stewardship programs, writing successful grants, and leading volunteers. Jenn’s specialty is in supporting small and mid-sized nonprofits in building and improving relationship-based fund development programs through board trainings and development coaching.
As a coach and consultant, Jenn supports individuals and organizations in clarifying their vision, designing an action plan, and holding them accountable in delivering their promise to the world.

Anne Peyton, CPF CFRE has worked in and with not-for-profits for more than 35 years. She has been a watch officer at Hurricane Island Outward Bound, a medical and academic librarian, and major gift officer at Dartmouth College.

Since 1989, Yellow Brick Road™ has worked with a variety of social benefit, not-for-profits: conservation and the environment, youth, education (K-12 public, private and higher education), the arts, cultural organizations, museums, hospitals, health care clinics, social service agencies, professional associations, and more. The metaphor of Dorothy and fellow travelers on the yellow brick road in the Wizard of Oz tells the story of our philosophy of service, strengthening intuitive knowledge and expanding expertise within organizations to fulfill their missions to make the world a better place.

YBR focuses on board governance, organizational development, strategic planning, and fundraising, with facilitation, training, and coaching as additional areas of expertise. A grants management program offers services from one-time funding searches to full-scale grants management.

Structure: With handouts, lecture, dialogue, interactive sessions, individual exercises, and work in groups and pairs.


FAQ

Can I register other attendees for a training?

You can register up to 5 colleagues or employees from one organization for each training. However, we ask for important demographic information and dietary restrictions from each attendee. Please make sure each attendee fills out this info prior to the training.


What is the refund policy?

Cancellations must be made via email at least 10 business days prior to the date of the workshop in order to receive a refund (less a $15 processing fee). Email trainings@tsne.org should you need to cancel your registration.

Where are your workshops located?

Unless otherwise noted, all workshops are held at TSNE MissionWorks' NonProfit Center, conveniently located in Downtown Boston at 89 South Street, Boston 02111, near public transportation. Are there ID requirements?

You will need valid identification to check in with security at the building's front desk.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, we will have a list of attendees when you arrive to the NonProfit Center.
