Event description

Description

Take Back the Night began in the 70s and in 2001 a group of women formally marched to reclaim the space that had been taken from them. Throughout the years, this movement grew into the Take Back the Night Foundation and now is an annual event hosted in over 30 countries. In Dupage County, this event has been held annually for the past 20 years! This is a time for the community to come together, recognize and support all survivors from all forms of power based violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment and more.

The event will be held on the 2nd floor of The Harold & Eva White Activity Center at North Central College

Schedule:

4:00-4:45 - Doors open and guest are welcome to meet some of the amazing organizations that work in our own community. Find resources, volunteer opportunities or learn about an issue you're unfamiliar with. Interested in becoming part of the exhibition? Email reclaimingme1@gmail.com.

4:45 - Keynote speaker and musical performance.

5:45 - Survivor speakout - We will welcome any survivors who would like to joins us and share their story in a safe space. Survivors are welcome to share their story however they wish, from poems to stories, we ask you keep your speech to a 5 minute limit so that everyone has an opportunity to speak if they wish. If you feel uncomfortable speaking or it is not safe to do so but still wish to share your story, please email your story/poem to reclaimingme1@gmail.com and one of the on site advocates will read your story on your behalf.

6:30 - We end the evening in a march (route TBD) to break the silence surrounding power based violence! Feel free to bring signs and posters, but please remember no hate speech or any ism (racism, sexism, etc.) will be allowed.
