Tai Chi for Seniors, Health and Self Defense
This class is for serious students that want to learn classical Tai Chi and not made-up, new-age dances devised for amusement and profit. On the average it takes 5 or 6 years, to master the classical forms and the underlying theory. However, the theoretical basis is not necessary for students interested only in health; also self-defense need not be practiced, considerably shortening the learning time.
The hidden acupoints in each move of the form, which are used to incapacitate an opponent, will be taught. Some basic Chinese medicine is covered in order to understand the real benefits of the form and how each posture affects internal organs and body parts for health, as well as self-defense.
Martial push hands consisting of punching, strikes, throws, kicks, etc. is practiced and not the modern, useless pushing forms. Other two person self-defense forms, such as, small and large San Sau, Da Lu, etc. are practiced. Similar forms are practiced using classical Chinese weapons such as: sword, staff; spear.
When & Where
By profession, Dr. Eisen was a university Professor specializing in constructing mathematical models such as those in cancer chemotherapy and epilepsy. He has studied and taught Yoga, Judo, and Aikido. Dr. Eisen was the founder and chief-instructor of the Shotokan Karate Clubs at Carnegie-Mellon and Dusquene Universities and the University of Pittsburgh. He helped teach Yoga in Graterford prison. His curiosity about the relation of Qi to healing and martial arts led him to study TCM, Tai Chi and Praying Mantis Kung Fu. He was initiated as a Disciple of Master Gin Foon Mark. Dr. Eisen now teaches (at his Kwoon and by webcam), writes and researches Praying Mantis, Qigong and Yang Tai Chi and helps educate patients at the Arch Acupuncture and Health Center.
