Description

Tai Chi for Rehabilitation; Level II

12 pre-approved contact hours CEUs for PTs, PTAs, OTs by TPTA and AOTA.

Course Description:

*Tai Chi for Rehabilitation; Level II builds on the Level I course: Tai Chi for Rehabilitation (TCR I). All participants must have successfully attended and completed the TCR I course as a prerequisite to participate in TCR II.

This is a day and a half workshop that provides 12 continuing education credits.

We will begin by reviewing our Tai Chi form learned in the Level I course, and by discussing application experiences since attending the Level I course.

You will gain an in depth understanding of Tai Chi principles as they apply to therapeutic application and benefit. A higher level of Tai Chi principles of movement will be introduced through Qigong movements. These include:

  • Master William Ting’s “24 postural musts”,
  • postural alignment
  • weight transference
  • contralateral movement
  • movement around center of gravity
  • body mechanics as they relate to specific movements

You will be taught how to apply these concepts for improved ROM, reducing pain, fall reduction, and improving strength and balance.

Guided movement activities will help you put principles into practice. You will learn to use Tai Chi and Qigong movements as an evidenced based therapeutic exercise, to apply newly introduced principles to various diagnoses for maximum therapeutic benefit, and to appropriately document for reimbursement.

This course will have a heavy emphasis on application. 2 hours of requisite work will be required and assigned.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this program, the learner will be able to:

  1. Clearly articulate and apply the 6 basic Tai Chi principles as a therapeutic intervention
  2. Appropriately apply and demonstrate the use of Tai Chi form, warm up, Qigong or principle to a complex patient for therapeutic benefit
  3. Provide strong documentation when using Tai Chi as an evidenced base intervention
  4. Learn the William Ting’s “24 Musts” as it applies to posture and movement
  5. Demonstrate intermediate level application of Tai Chi movement principles
  6. Generate appropriate modifications of movements for various patient levels
