Description

T’ai CHI CH’UAN (“Supreme Ultimate”)

T’ai chi, also known as 13 movements is an internal martial art practiced for both its self-defense training and its health benefits. T’ai chi, also known as thirteen movements includes warding off, rolling back, pressing, pushing, pull down, splitting, elbowing, striking, smoothing, squeezing, leaning, advancing and retreating and much more. In terms of the Eight Diagrams, the first four movements are concerned with the four directions of north, south, east and west while the middle four movements with the four directions of northwest, southwest, northeast and southeast. In terms of the Five Elements, the last five movements match metal, wood, water, fire, and earth respectively. Each movement is closely related to Yin and Yang and labeled thirteen movements which is called T’ai Chi Boxing.

Our basic T’’ai chi class will begin with Cleansing breaths and 5 minutes of Qigong meditation to allow access to higher realms of awareness to help develop human potential. Then, the T’’ai chi warm up to open up the circulation of chi throughout the mind, body and spirit using various joint rotating and muscle stretching exercises along side the Eight Silken Movements (Baduanjin qigong). After the warm up and a short break, we will begin learning the first routine of T’ai chi (“Old Frame”), the originally routine from which all routines are derived from.
