Event description
Tai Chi Chuan with John Wallace

About this Event

Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese martial art based on a sequence of movements to develop and improve posture, balance, and body mechanics, as well as countless other physical and emotional benefits. This class will focus on the standardized "Beijing short form" which is the most widely practiced form in the world. We will also explore some common qigong exercises, as well as some more vigorous movements and exercises. Each class will introduce new material, so daily practice will be important to skill development.

Dress comfortably to allow for easy movement; sweat pants or yoga pants are fine. However, it is important to avoid footwear with aggressive soles. Stocking feet is fine.

A long time resident of Delaware, John Wallace has been a student of tai chi since the early 90s. His first exposure was through an adult education class at OSU, and he was immediately hooked.

Following that class, he became immersed in the art, for several years dedicating many hours per week training in form, applications, sword, and other aspects of the art. Following a brief sabbatical from training, he took up training with a new instructor who would open up many new aspects to the art, including various qigong exercises, as well as an obscure series of movements known as 13 Hands of Luohan, and an accompanying form. He has taught various classes over the years, and presently teaches his tai chi to students at the Cancer Support Community in Columbus.
