Event description

Description

Are you tired of an overflowing closet of things that don't spark joy?
Heard the phrase 'sustainable fashion' but wondering what it all means?
Want to shop more thoughtfully but not sure which brands to support?
Keen to mix with a tribe of people who think the same way?

Singapore — it's time for a wardrobe intervention!

With fashion being one of the most polluting and socially unjust industries on the planet, we need to address the big elephant in the room: our toxic relationship with clothing consumption.

That's why, in collaboration with Fashion Revolution SG and Textile & Fashion Federation (Singapore), we're going to deep dive into the above in a thought-provoking panel talk with local opinion leaders and designers, held in the Tencel Studio on the rooftop of Design Orchard.

We'll be chatting about:

- The basics: what exactly is sustainable and ethical fashion.
- How the way we shop right now is affecting our planet.
- Tips for being a more thoughtful consumer.
- Why sustainable fashion can be more 'expensive'.
- How we can improve our relationship with the things we buy.
- The steps we can take to make the fashion industry more planet-friendly for the future.

***This is a FREE event, but please RSVP through the eventbrite link so we know numbers!

Our speaker guests include:

Selina Altomonte, Editor-in-Chief of Honeycombers
Selina is a recovering maximalist and recreational shopper, but still has a passion for slow, sustainable fashion. Her mission is to naturally weave conscious consumerism and sustainability into mainstream media through her role as editor in chief at Honeycombers.

Laura A. François, Fashion Revolution SG Country Coordinator and Social Impact Strategist.
Having previously worked in the not-for-profit and corporate social responsibility sphere, Laura now consults to social enterprises and brands in the Southeast Asian region on responsible strategy, design thinking and storytelling. Laura specialises in awareness raising and engaging others in conscious consumerism, serving as Social Entrepreneurship Mentor for Malaysia’s Global Innovation & Creativity Centre, and speaker at Ideas Agent Meet up and TedX Penang.

Rakhee Shah, founder and designer of Maisha Concept
Maisha Concept’s founder and designer, Rakhee Shah, is third generation Kenyan by birth and of Indian origin, and her interest in fabrics started at a very young age. Born and raised in Nairobi, Rakhee was particularly close to her father, who manufactured and distributed a variety of textiles. From an early age Rakhee was exposed to textiles and prints and from there she started designing and stitching pieces for self-use. Over the years, seeing the world this way through curious eyes sparked her desire to link her African heritage and contemporary design credentials to create something truly unique.

Anisa Johnny, Senior Lecturer, Fashion Marketing and Management at Raffles Singapore
Anisa has spent the last 20 years doing a variety of roles in fashion in the UK and Singapore. From training in the buying office at Marks & Spencer's Head Office, launching her own fashion brand with clients across Europe, to working her way up to consulting for TopShop. As part of her post-graduate research Anisa cut her teeth in design thinking and branding by establishing one of London's best loved heritage buildings into a unique venue. She then transitioned to academia, spending the last 6 years as a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Marketing & Management in Singapore. Anisa’s special interest is in fashion entrepreneurship and sustainability. Successfully, managing projects that bridge education and industry has inspired her to mentor leading young talent to improve fashion marketing and champion fashion sustainability in Asia Pacific.
