Event description

Description

Middle school and high school teens wishing to help combat drinking and drugs and bring to light other issues teens face through an interactive live drama are invited to join us for this free theater session. Interested teens should submit a bio and letter of interest to artsandnatureschool@gmail.com.

Class is taught by Wendy Mitchell, an award-winning theater instructor with over 20 years of experience teaching youth in the Greater Danbury Area. Wendy studied Child Development at Post University and earned her Head Teaching Certification through the State of Connecticut in 2008. Wendy is passionate about helping teens navigate through the difficult years in high school and middle school and is opening her studio to create a safe space for youth of all interests and abilities to come and have a place to feel comfortable, welcomed and valued.

Wendy is a member of the Ridgefield Youth Commission, the Ridgefield Arts Council and has been a volunteer youth mentor since 2001. She is a writer who has written and produced over a dozen children and youth plays. Her 2007 3-part drama Forward Motion was produced and presented at inner city churches and community centers in the New Haven, Waterbury and Bridgeport areas to the praise of parents and teens alike. She is currently working to get her 501(c)3 nonprofit status for this much-needed communtiy youth program. Funding for this program comes through fundraising, events and private donors. Anyone interested in supporting this very worthy cause is welcome to please reach out to Wendy at the number below.

Students will brainstorm and write a play created by teens for teens that will end with a live drama at the end of the session. Teens will learn vocal and acting techniques, set design, blocking, improvisation and various techniques designed to help boost students' confidence and help work together as a team. This teen theater troupe welcomes actors, singers, dancers, visual artists, A/V techs and youth of all skill levels and abilities. The only requirement is a passion to help their peers quit or avoid making bad choices.

Classes run on Mondays Jan. 29th through Mon. Apr. 2nd from 3-4:30pm:No class Feb. 19 *no class- President's Day weekend

  • Final Performance Play will be on Saturday, April 7th at 6pm, possible 2nd show at 8pm if 6pm show sells out
