Hockman’s Martial Arts is proud to welcome back Joe Mayberry, owner and lead instructor at Systema Vasiliev: St. Louis. Joe is a Detective with the St. Louis Police Department Major Case Squad, former Diplomatic Protection Officer, and U.S. Marine Veteran.
Systema (Russian Martial Arts) is a concept based non-traditional martial art dating back to the 10th century. During the Soviet era, it was practiced by Soviet Special Forces Troops (SPETSNAZ) and Intelligence Operatives (KGB, GRU, MVD) and was a closely held state secret. With the end of the Soviet Union, the practice of Systema spread to the west and the rest of the world.
On any given day, in any number of different places, or under a variety of circumstances, you may find yourself without a purpose built self defense tool. This seminar with explore the use of regular objects, those we carry with us and those we may commonly find in everyday life, as weapons of opportunity.
You will see how common items can be quickly adapted to self defense in many different ways. Additionally you'll begin to look at variety of everyday objects and think "how can I use this?"
By utilizing the Systema methods and concepts of training, attendees will learn to incorporate weapons of opportunity into their self-defense plan and/or martial art
What to bring:
-An open mind and positive attitude
-A jacket or coat that you don't mind getting stretched or possibly torn.
-Training Knife (if you have one, if not we will have training knifes available for loan)
-Wear comfortable clothing, you can move in (everyday casual or workout)
-Shoes will not be allowed on the training mats. Socks, Grappling or traction socks, etc. are acceptable.
-Notetaking materials, if you’re a notetaker
-Water and a light snack
*clear lens eye protection: if you wear prescription glasses or have a set of eye protection you wear for other activities bring them, if not we'll have pairs available.
All other training materials and equipment will be provided.
Note: This is not a physical conditioning course and we will seek to take into account any physical limitations of the attendees, if possible.
