About this Event

Colorado Kids Identified with Dyslexia (COKID) and the DU Children's Legal Advocacy groups are co-sponsoring this Symposium. Intended audience is Parents, Educators, Advocates, and Community Members. Details are subject to change.

  • 8:00 - 8:55 a.m. Registration
  • 9:00 - 9:55 a.m. - Crash Course in Testing & Evaluations for Struggling Readers presented by Laura Santerre-Lemmon, Ph.D.
  • 10:00 - 10:55 a.m. - Read ACT and Read Plans presented by the Colorado Department of Education - Preschool - 3rd Grade Office.
  • 11:00 – 12:30 p.m. - Section 504, Title II, and Students with Disabilities in Public Schools presented by the U.S. Dept of Education Office of Civil Rights.
  • 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. - Lunch (Bring your Own or Optional Catered Lunch Classic Bar from Illegal Pete's, prepayment required by 3/2.)
  • 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. - IDEA & Reading Disabilities, Navigating IEP’s for Struggling Readers presented by Jacqueline Esquibel, Esq.
  • 2:35 – 3:30 p.m. - Understanding School Discipline for Struggling Readers presented by Melody Joy Fields, M.A., J.D. Candidate, 2020

Parking Information

  • There are several events on campus that day, so parking at the Law School will be limited. Use of carpooling and public transportation such as lightrail is highly recommended.
  • Paid hourly (visitor) parking lots are first-come-first-serve. The cost for parking in a paid an hourly lot is $2.00/hour with a maximum of $10 for the day. Guests can pay for parking at the pay machines in the lots using cash, coins, or credit cards or using the mobile application, ParkMobile. When paying with cash, exact change must be used, machines do not give change.
  • Parking is located in the L Parking Garage attached to the law school and is accessible either from Evans Street or Asbury Street. Other visitor parking lots are time-limited from 1-3 hours. Map: https://www.du.edu/parking/maps/index.html.

Teacher Licensure Renewal

  • We will provide a certificate with the number of hours at the close of the event. If you are teacher who would like to use this certificate of hours, please bring your completed evaluation form with your name on it to the registration desk at the close of the conference.
