Event description

Description

CCASN and SRI International, in coordination with eight other California research-based organizations, are hosting this fourth event in a four-symposia series:

  • The secondary student experience (October 2017)
  • Equity issues in teaching and learning (April 2018)
  • Capacity building and leadership (November 2018)
  • Systems alignment (April 26, 2019).

Our goals in this final symposium are to identify the highest priority problems of practice in aligning systems for equity in college and career pathways, and the research needed to address those barriers to students’ success and persistence through high school and higher education to career goals.

We have assigned symposium invitees to strands (found in your invitation letter). If you accept our invitation, we are requesting that you choose a subtopic within your assigned strand and complete the following pre-work: identify three significant research sources in that subtopic that illuminate a system alignment problem of practice that impedes equitable outcomes from college and career pathways, and which you think essential for the field to address. Then write a brief reflection about why you would prioritize that problem of practice for research. (See the pre-work template included with your invitation for further details.) You will identify your choice of subtopic when you complete the registration form.

This symposium series has been made possible by generous support from the James Irvine Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, and the Stuart Foundation, as well as Planning Committee members' in-kind contributions. SRI International is co-hosting this symposium on system alignment, contributing facilities, food, and logistical support.

Although we do not have funds to pay for travel or lodging, we have a small budget to offset travel expenses for those who would not otherwise be able to attend. We encourage you to tap into your own organization’s travel or conference funds first. If a lack of funding makes it impossible for you to attend, please let us know.

Your work and continued support in the effort to effect equitable outcomes from the U.S. high school experience is a great source of inspiration, and we hope you are able to share your expertise with us in April!

If you can join us, please register using the button on the right, above. If you know you will be unable to attend, please reply to the invitation email so we can note your response. We would greatly appreciate your response by March 8.
