Event description

Description

Our third program turns its attention to WWI, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the war's end. Butterworth was killed in WWI, Ravel's compositional movements are each dedicated to a friend who died in the war (though it's not a somber piece at all!), and Griffes was in America at the conclusion of WWI but suffered the loss of German mentors and colleagues in the post-war anti-German sentiment. Carl Nielsen was inspired to write his monumental 5th symphony by WWI and said, "Not one of us is the same as we were before the war." Join us as honor this pivotal period in music, and pay tribute to our veterans for their patriotic service.

Please join us for a pre-concert talk from 2:45 -3:15 pm.
