On Thursday November 18, 2021 at 8:00pm, Sydeboob Duo will give their first concert entitled "Debut" at Irma Freeman Center for Imagination in Friendship. Soprano Anna Elder and flutist Sarah Steranka make up the female-fronted duo who will perform works by composers Rebecca Saunders, Eve Beglarian, Kaija Saariaho, Anahita Abbasi, Kate Soper, and Brian Riordan.
Saunders’ O Yes & I for bass flute and soprano draws text from Molly Bloom’s monologue, the final chapter of James Joyce’s Ulysses. Eve Beglarian’s Robin Redbreast for voice, piccolo, and electronics features the poetry of Stanley Kunitz and a piccolo part which warps a robin song. This program will also feature the live world premiere of "Succubus" for soprano and live electronics by Pittsburgh-based composer Brian Riordan.
A spinoff of the Pittsburgh-based new music collective Kamratōn, Sydeboob Duo is made up of flutist Sarah Steranka and soprano Anna Elder. Based in Brooklyn, NY, they actively commission and perform contemporary classical music for soprano and flute(s). They are a female-fronted experimental music collective dedicated to pushing the boundaries of contemporary performance, amplifying the voices of female artists, and using alternative performance mediums to invite listeners into a more unique and challenging listening space.
Tickets are $10 per person and will be sold on Eventbrite before the show and at the door.
