Swiss Film & Talks, a monthly film presentation and conversation series continues with "And Tomorrow We Wil Be Dead" (Switzerland / Germany, 2021, 115 min.). Michael Steiner's moving film opened this year’s Zurich Film Festival and was part of Berlin & Beyond Film Festival in San Francisco. If you missed it, that is your chance!
"And Tomorrow We Wil Be Dead" is a timely thriller following a real-life Swiss couple as they fulfill their dream of driving the ancient Silk Road through Pakistan, where they are kidnapped and taken to the war-torn Pashtun region of Waziristan and handed over to the Taliban.
The film generated headlines in view of the recent Taliban victory in Afghanistan that followed the withdrawal of U.S. forces. Yet it also offers a look at a complex geopolitical situation that not only includes the Taliban, but also Pashtun militants and the continuing impact of a century-old conflict triggered by the British-drawn border between Afghanistan and what was then British India that divided Pashtun land.
A Q&A, filmed during Berlin & Beyond Film Festival at Castro Theater, with director Michael Steiner will follow the film.
