Event description

Description

PieTisserie is hosting a 24-hour Thanksgiving sale of delicious artisan pies from noon on Wednesday November 21st to noon on Thursday November 22nd.

The idea for Sweet Thursday came in part from seeing customers arrive past last year’s 9pm closing time and line up early the next morning before 8am in a Black Friday-like ritual (minus the jostling of course). There is something else that gave Jaynelle St. Jean, the founder and owner of Pietisserie, the idea for the name. She has a special relationship with John Steinbeck, the Nobel Prize winning author of the novel Sweet Thursday. Jaynelle’s aunt Virginia St. Jean, is the great niece of Steinbeck. Her family recently restored the Steinbeck family cottage in Pacific Grove that was built in 1903. Jaynelle spent several nights there in 2009, just before launching Pietisserie, and the experience left a deep impression.

She drew upon this family legacy to create a special event for Pietisserie. “Sweet Thursday is Steinbeck’s story of emotional healing after the Second War, of community, compassion and acceptance,” Jaynelle explains. “What has always been a part of pie making for me is that ability to create food that brings people together in a moment of kindness and delight, so it makes sense to celebrate that family literary tradition in what we do at Pietisserie.”
