£17,000 available for community groups in Swaythling through a Participatory Budgeting Programme!

About this Event

Please join us for the Swaythling Community Come Together: Funding Our Future Participatory Budgeting Voting Event!

Hampshire Police, Southampton City Council and Abri have made £17,000 available for a Participatory Budgeting programme which focuses on community safety in Swaythling. The aim is to support local projects and ideas to get funding that will help them benefit the community. The hope is that by getting more local people involved in schemes to help each other then the community becomes more active and vibrant. By taking part you will be contributing to that effort!

Participatory Budgeting (PB) puts community members in control of allocating funds to projects that will benefit the community. PB is a democratic process where applicants are asked to make a short film about their project. Swaythling residents are then given the opportunity to vote for the projects that they believe will be of most benefit to the community. You will be amazed by the many different ways thay local people want to support Swaythling residents.

A total of 20 bids have been received, and this is YOUR chance to vote for the projects that YOU believe will make a difference for the community. At the event you will see 20 short films from projects that are bidding for a share of the £17,000. You will be given the opportunity to vote for each project after each film has been shown.

From Tuesday 20th April 2021, you will be given the opportunity to view the short films created by the projects who submitted bids. The films will be shown here on this site.

The voting process will be explained at the start of each voting event , but essentially each person who registers will be allowed ONE vote per project . You will be given the opportunity to vote on a sliding scale from 1-5 depending upon how beneficial you think that the project will be for Swaythling. You MUST enter a vote for each project – this is to prevent people coming along and JUST voting for their preferred project – we want you to tell us how you feel about EVERY project.

FAILURE TO VOTE FOR EVERY PROJECT WILL RESULT IN YOUR VOTES BEING CLASSED AS 'SPOILED ' AND THEY WILL NOT BE COUNTED.

For this event, those who register on Eventbrite, and match the registration criteria will be allowed to access the voting process from 12:45 on Saturday 24th April 2021. The event will start promptly at 1pm and will last around 2 hrs - so please ensure that you are on time. You cannot vote for projects that have already been viewed and you won’t know the running order in advance.

The link for the voting process will be shared via email with those who register. This will be sent via Eventbrite at 5pm Friday 23rd April. The event will run on the Zoom platform. Only one vote will be possible from each device – so if you intend to follow the event with a friend or family member on a single device then only one person needs to register and you will only get one vote. If, however, you have two or more devices then of course you can all have a vote even if you’re sat in the same room!

IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE - YOU MUST LIVE IN THE SWAYTHLING AREA AND YOU MUST BE OVER THE AGE OF 11yrs.

During the voting process, there will be a few short 'fun' tests of your knowledge of the area, and there will be a prize for a lucky voter who registers and participates for the whole of the voting process.
