WORKSHOP ::: Historical Performance and Experimental Practice / Perspectives from Japanese Performing Arts


Swallowing and Spitting History

Artists and scholars come together in a three-hour workshop to discuss experimental approaches in Japanese performing arts for this workshop. The session deals with artistic engagements of history both through and as performance, emphasizing the contemporary social and political possibilities of performance as an embodied practice. The workshop features composer / sound artist Miya Masaoka, director Brooke O’Harra, and choreographer / movement artist Eiko Otake. The event will include artist presentations, a movement workshop led by Eiko Otake, and a discussion led by anthropologist Marilyn Ivy.
