Event description

Description

The 2018 SWAAG meeting will be held on the LSU-Baton Rouge campus during the LSU Fall Break, with unencumbered access to campus facilities. Normally early October in Baton Rouge is graced with resplendent weather: low 80s during the day, low 60s at night, declining humidity, bright sunshine (25% or less chance of precipitation). Baton Rouge, in both its center and on its peripheries, has multiple sites for enjoying Louisiana’s famed cuisine, music, and other cultural attractions. SWAAG goers will be treated to a sampling of these: Wednesday night will be devoted to checking in (the Staybridge Suites on the south edge of campus is the conference hotel) and checking out local attractions, including an ice-breaker at Walk-Ons, a popular sports bar adjacent to Staybridge Suites. Thursday’s schedule includes paper and poster sessions, a buffet luncheon and address by AAG President Sheryl Luzzadder-Beach, a late afternoon field trip to the new state-of-art River Studies Center, and SWAAG's fourth annual World Geography Bowl. Friday’s schedule will continue the paper and poster sessions, another luncheon with an invited speaker on coastal issues, the SWAAG business meeting, and a wind-up at the craft Tin Roof Brewery, for cereal beverage sampling and Zydeco music listening. Food trucks will be on site dishing up local food varieties. Evening meal will be own plans, with north campus restaurants being logical destinations. Two field trips are planned for Saturday. New Orleans native Barry Keim will lead his well-honed hometown & environs excursion. Baton Rouge-and-beyond native Craig Colten will lead his own well-trod trip along River Road and its back-of-levee landscapes. Register early and get a price break; register late and help us keep it solvent, but either way, come on over and spend a few days at LSU and Baton Rouge! You will “pass a good time.”
