The Innvation Sweet Spot

Wed, Mar 2nd, 2011 (06:45-09:00)

Bay Cafe & Restaurant
1875 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto

Innovation can often occur within a new Innovation Structure, a subject of continuing interest to SVII members. Paul Masson, long familiar to SVII regulars has a great deal of experience creating new frameworks which facilitate innovation including Public-Private Partnerships in areas as diverse as Aviation and Energy.

Individuals who assume innovation is mostly the domain of technologists and entrepreneurs, will have their eyes opened to new possibilities by Mr. Masson, a world class Wharton educated finance innovation practitioner who has worked for SRI and in south american banks.

Come participate with Paul Masson who will be leading a discussion on The Innovation Sweet Spot, an equilibrium achieved by balancing several strong forces innovators find themselves subjected to.

This talk will focus on the balance between four fundamental human forces:

* Individual fulfillment
* Group identity
* Competition
* Cooperation

Human systems are most stable at the sweet spot between the four. Innovation works the same way. Connecting insights that give rise to innovation occurs when individual and group processes observe and connect those insights into a novel innovative equilibrium.

Achieving such connectivity can be influenced by scale. Individual insights in collaboration with those of a larger group can profitably engage both cooperation and competition dynamics.

Speaker:

Paul Masson, MBA has 25 years experience in financial syndications, startup companies, technology partnerships, and multi-party innovation alliances. As Managing Director, Paul coordinates the StarNet, LLC team projects and provides personal guidance in the areas of technology financing, multi-party alliance design, alliance facilitation (creation and troubleshooting) and public/private partnerships.

Paul holds a BS Economics (Honors) from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Finance also from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
