About the book

Written with grit and authenticity, A Dog’s Devotion is an inside view of a remarkable K9 Search and Rescue team whose “principal investigator” is a yellow Labrador retriever named Keb. Readers will join this intrepid K9 and her teammates as they face challenges of searching in the Pacific Northwest.

About the authors

Suzanne Elshult, MA has been active in K9 Search and Rescue (SAR) since 2001. She has held leadership positions with both the Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue Team and Everett Mountain Rescue. She and her Labrador Retrievers Keb and Kili have deployed on hundreds of SAR missions ranging from disaster searches, urban searches looking for dementia subjects, to mountain and wilderness searches in all kinds of environments including avalanches. Suzanne has been recognized for her regional efforts to further collaboration in the K9 community and received the Washington State Search and Rescue Leadership Award in 2017. Suzanne is currently a founding member and President of Cascadia Search Dogs.She has an M.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and has devoted her professional career to building organizational leadership and emotional intelligence, first as a senior executive and later in her practice as an Executive Coach working with hundreds of companies and senior leaders throughout the United States.

Suzanne and her dogs currently deploy out of Mason County Search and Rescue and the Canine Forensics Foundation.

James Guy Mansfield, PhD has been active in Search and Rescue since 2008, with experience as a member of Everett Mountain Rescue and the Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue. He has deployed on SAR missions ranging from wilderness searches to technical rope-rescues, to disaster searches, to urban searches for Alzheimer patients. Guy has served as Operations Section Chief and Planning Section Chief on some of the largest searches in northwest Washington State. He has assisted law enforcement on major homicide cases and has been recognized by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department and the Governor of Washington State for his role on high-profile search and rescue incidents. Guy is a founder and Director of the Washington State SAR Planning Unit.
