Each year, TAASA hosts a prevention institute designed to provide training and networking opportunities for individuals and agencies across Texas, who are engaging in sexual violence primary prevention efforts. This year, we have adopted the title of Sustaining Change: Prevention Institute for the following reasons:
1. Prevention work is long-term work, so we must always consider ways to sustain it over for the long haul.
2. Primary prevention work is about changing the conditions in our communities that make sexual violence more likely to happen. This requires norms and social change in individuals, communities, and our society.
Our upcoming prevention institute is designed to provide SAPCS Federal – RPE Grantees with training focused on implementing and evaluating successful prevention programs in their communities. Attendees will receive training on topics including: implementing activity-based evaluation, developing comprehensive prevention programming, engaging communities in prevention efforts, and sustaining themselves in the movement. Attendees will also be afforded the opportunity to share their own expertise and network with one another while enjoying downtown Austin.
Registration for Sustaining Change: Prevention Institute is FREE and will close on July 7, 2014 or when registration is full at 80 participants. Registration is on a first come, first served basis, so please register as soon as possible.
The prevention institute is targeted primarily to rape crisis centers or dual agencies receiving SAPCS – Federal RPE funding. Therefore, if you are not an employee at an agency receiving this funding, your registration will be moved over to the waiting list. Additionally, due to limited space and in order to allow as many rape crisis centers as possible to attend, each agency receiving SAPCS-Federal RPE funding may register TWO staff members. If an agency registers more than two people, we will contact you to discuss which staff member(s) to move to the waiting list.
Individuals on the waiting list will be notified by July 11, 2014 as to whether or not there is space available at the institute, which will allow sufficient time to make hotel reservations at the guaranteed rate.
Attendees at Sustaining Change: Prevention Institute will cover the cost of their own hotel rooms. TAASA has negotiated a rate of $120/night at the Double Tree Suites by Hilton Austin. You can make reservations at this link. You will likely want to register for the nights of the August 13th and 14th, but the rate of $120/night will be available up to a couple of days before or after the event should you need to stay longer to accommodate your travel. The deadline for the reduced rate is July 22, 2014.
