Event description

Description

Landscapes that manage stormwater runoff can also provide aesthetic beauty and ecological benefits. These landscapes are gaining ground as sustainable methods to address runoff volumes and improve water quality. Opportunities are increasing for contractors who can maintain these landscapes.

Rain gardens, bioswales and vegetated filter strips are examples of commonly-used Low Impact Development (LID) permanent stormwater best management practices (BMPs) that provide multiple benefits in a landscape. The City of San Antonio, Bexar County, the San Antonio River Foundation, private businesses, and multiple schools within the San Antonio area have recently installed multi-functional landscapes that include these elements. Set yourself apart by learning what it takes to maintain these features in a sustainable manner.

This free workshop will provide an overview of vegetated LID BMPs including design components, proper functioning and specific maintenance considerations. Participants will gain knowledge of various sustainable landscape practices for improved ecological outcomes and resource conservation. Participants will be given a tour of on-site LID BMPs installed around the San Antonio River Authority office. Workshop attendees will qualify for 2 Texas Nursery & Landscape Association (TNLA) continuing education units (CEUs).

Lunch will be provided.

Registration is required due to limited seating. Please register through this Eventbrite page by August 28, 2017.
