Description

Hoosier Environmental Council, Indiana Women’s Political Caucus, and Action Together: Hamilton County Present:

Hamilton/Hancock County Sustainable Food Advocacy Workshop

Did you know that, according to the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization, factory farms (aka concentrated animal feeding oprations or CAFOs) produce 37% of methane (CH4) emissions, which has more than 20 times the global warming potential of CO2? Did you know that industrial animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of river and stream pollution in Indiana? Are you ready to do something about it? Join Hoosier Environmental Council’s Senior Staff Attorney and Director of Agriculture Policy, Kim Ferraro, on Saturday, November 4th from 10am - 2pm for a FREE educational workshop on sustainable food advocacy at Ivy Tech in Noblesville. Learn about industrial animal agriculture’s impact on climate change, Indiana’s environment, economy, and human health, alternatives for economic development, the role that food choice plays in ensuring a healthy environment – and livable climate -- for all, and what you can do to become part of the sustainable agriculture movement locally and statewide!

Topics for discussion include:

  • Protecting your community against the irresponsible siting of new CAFOs
  • Ensuring that existing CAFOs are following the law
  • Becoming a more effective advocate for greater local and state protections against the damaging impacts of factory farms
  • Personal food choice and its impact on the environment
  • Making positive change in a challenging political climate and building the local and statewide movement for a more sustainable food production system

When:

Saturday November 4th from 10am - 2pm
