Event description
A virtual community discussion to develop a blueprint for Southwest Michigan's sustainability efforts.

About this event

Sustainable efforts have been prioritized by many individuals and organizations throughout Southwest Michigan long before sustainability became a buzzword. With our region’s beautiful ecosystem filled with pristine lakes and forests, it is no wonder why so many are passionate about this initiative. While no effort is too small, the time has come to get the greater community on the same page to share a common vision of a sustainable community.

Whether you or your business have become a smooth-running mean-green machine or you're just getting to know the topic, Southwest Michigan First invites you to join an interactive discussion with the local consortium of sustainability-focused businesses. Tune in on June 22, to help develop the blueprint that will align organizations and businesses across the region in their sustainability efforts to make our companies and community better.

During our time together, we will explore the value and best practices of sustainability and begin to develop the regional sustainability vision. Local leaders that lead national efforts in sustainable practices will be on hand to set the tone for the small group break-out discussions. We will be joined by Erol Odabasi, the Stryker Director of Corporate Sustainability; Jim Justice the Vice President of Corporate Responsibility and Resource Management at Kalsec; and Marley McVey an Environmental Engineer at Fishbeck. To guide our discussion, please consider these questions:

  • What do I want to hear more about in relation to being a more sustainable company?
  • How can our sustainability efforts most impact and improve the lives of all regional residents?
  • In what ways can my organization collaborate to improve the success of our sustainability efforts?
  • What are examples of sustainable measures taken by best-in-class cities?

Sustainably conscious businesses work to strengthen not only their bottom lines but also to create long-term value by taking into consideration how the organization impacts the planet and the people who call our community home. Ensure the future success of your company and our community by joining the discussion.
