Event description

SoulBuffalo, in partnership with Sustainable Brands, is proud to offer attendees the opportunity to participate in a very uniquely designed Ocean Plastics/Orcas Extension in beautiful Tofino, BC on Vancouver Island.

One Destination, Two Contrasting Stories: Breathtaking Nature and Wildlife and the Ocean Plastics Crisis

Thousands of participants will be descending on Vancouver for the Sustainable Brands conference. This post-conference expedition on Vancouver Island will give participants the opportunity to meet and network with other participants, deep dive into the Ocean Plastics sustainability story and explore the beauty of Vancouver Island while integrating their Sustainable Brands conference experience.

Vancouver Island: Ocean Carved Land of Majestic Beauty

Vancouver Island is renowned for its majestic mountain ranges, peerless coastal forests, and pristine waters. It is home to large populations of eagles, orca and brown bear. Tofino, nestled in the heart of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is a prime destination for Sustainable Brands participants seeking inspiration from the wild.

BC's Pristine Waters Threatened by Ocean Plastics: Exploring this Critical Sustainability Challenge

West of Vancouver lies the North Pacific Gyre, a vast rotating current about twice the size of Texas. Sadly, this area has become one of the largest and most notorious zones of plastic aggregation in the world, with beaches all along the Pacific Ocean feeling the impact of its presence.

Ocean plastics are becoming an ever more daunting problem. More than 220 million tons of plastic are produced each year. Discarded plastics often find their way into our seas, where they cause hazards for marine life and disrupt oceanic food webs.

As the gravity the ocean plastics problem continues to grow, many institutions are shifting focus to grapple with this challenge. One such institution, Tofino’s North island College, is dedicated to creating innovative responses to ocean plastics. SoulBuffalo has partnered with the North Island College to present Sustainable Brands participants the opportunity to engage with experts, build networks, and join cutting-edge efforts that acknowledge the severity and immediacy of the ocean plastics problem. We encourage all interested Sustainable Brands attendees to join us for this unforgettable excursion as we explore this challenge together.

Thursday Night (June 7th) : Participants will fly to Tofino on Thursday afternoon (after the conference). Weather permitting, we will have the opportunity to view the beauty of Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea from the air throughout our short flight.

In addition to learning intensives, we will also go on beach walks. On Friday night we will take a sunset whale watching (orca) cruise.

Saturday (June 9th)- Nature Immersion: In the morning, we will experience the breathtaking beauty of Tofino as we hike the Wild Pacific Trail together, one of the top hikes in the region. In the afternoon, participants are free to choose from a variety of optional activities, including sightseeing from float planes, wildlife cruises and visiting a hot spring. The experience is rounded out with art and cultural immersions celebrating Salish artistic traditions and craftsmanship. *Additional activities are priced differently and not included in the overall price.
