The Sustainable Backyard Tour is a self-guided, open-house-style tour of private residential yards and gardens throughout St. Louis City and County.
Tour sites showcase a range of green living practices, including low-impact lawn care, composting and using recycled materials creatively, organic gardening, chicken and beekeeping, gardening with native plants, mushrooms, fruit & nut trees, as well as rainwater conservation, pesticide and herbicide reduction, renewable energy production and backyard habitat creation.
With more than 30 backyards on tour, the point is not to see all of the yards but to choose those closest to you and to what your goals are. There is no starting point, you will receive a map in advance so that you can set your own biking, walking, or carpooling route.
Now in its third year, the Sustainable Backyard Tour is your chance to see firsthand how homeowners in St. Louis City and County are transforming their yards from energy intensive, unsustainable lawns to heavenly havens of green!
You do not need to print out or present a ticket at anytime during the tour.
By registering, you also allow us to track attendance numbers, so that we can estimate the level of interest in the tour overall.
The Sustainable Backyard Tour
Sponsored by Grassroots Green StL, Slow Food St. Louis, Gateway Gardener Magazine and the Audubon Society of St. Louis, with additional support from Kakao Chocolate, Microgrid Solar and St. Louis Earth Day.
