Description

While sifting through the shelves of old sheet music in a thrift store in Berlin NH, Tina Marquis was surprised to happen upon a song written by a local gentleman by the name of Felix Pisani. Despite being printed in 1944, the two copies of "I Came To Say Good-bye Sweetheart" were in pristine condition and selling for only 10 cents each. She bought both copies and gave one to her brother David Goyette, who studies piano. Dave made a recording of his piano teacher performing the song and then thought it would be nice to share it with the current generation of Felix's family. Arriving at the Pisani-owned restaurant, "The River's Edge" in Berlin, it appeared that this was the first time that Felix's son Francis or his grandson (who is also named Felix, after his grandfather), had ever heard the song. In a context like this, it's as if the composer can enter the present moment and say hello again.

How many lost songs of Berlin are sitting stacked amidst a pile of papers or exist only on unplayed magnetic tape? Coming off of the record-setting, sold-out success of the "The Goyette Family Reunion Concert" held at St. Kieran Center for the Arts in 2018, singer / songwriter Susan Goyette returns home to celebrate the music of The Paper City.

The evening will be a unique and novel experience featuring multimedia and numerous special guests. Regional jazz favorite, Linda Pouliot, will share the gift of her voice - steeped in the greats of early blues and jazz. Multi-instrumentalist, Randy Labnon will pay tribute to his uncle (and really everyone's uncle!) Bob Labnon - who toured the world in the 1950's as part of the group "The Short Twins" with his brother, Ray. Topping it off, more than half of the 13 brothers and sisters of the Goyette Family of Berlin will perform original songs, as well as the music they loved from the 60's and 70's. Michael Jewell & Bruce Flower will provide the musical accompaniment for the evening on piano and guitar.

Come celebrate and learn about the rich history of music connected to Berlin.
