Event Details

We are very excited to announce that author and Freedhearts blogger, Susan Cottrell will be our featured speaker in August. Susan Cottrell is a writer, speaker, teacher, counselor and ally. She is driving here all the way from Texas to be with us on Sunday August 18th so we’re looking for a big Georgia-sized welcome for her!

She writes:

For years I have taught the abiding life of Christ – in books, retreats, and direct discipling…God has also placed the LGBTQ community of believers and their families on my heart.

Why would a married Christ-loving mom join this debate? Two reasons. 1. Jesus called me. 2. I can’t help myself.

Please join us as we listen to Susan share her story of faith, love and hope. She will speak on resolving the unique tension between parenting, Christianity and being LGBTQ. Christian parents struggle with their faith when their kids come out to them because they see it as a black and white issue. Her heart is to convey hope and set out a path for them to find peace on this incredible journey. It is also her heart to help parents of other faith beliefs understand how best to help Christian parents in their support groups.

We have loved her posts and articles here at PFLAG Atlanta and reposted several. Susan will answer questions after she makes her comments. We will break for refreshments and then follow with our support groups from 4pm to 5pm.

Who We Are

PFLAG Atlanta is the Atlanta chapter of PFLAG National. We are a national support, education and advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, their families, friends and allies. With 200,000 members and supporters, and local affiliates in more than 500 communities across the U.S. and abroad, PFLAG is the largest grassroots-based family organization of its kind. PFLAG is a non-profit organization and is not affiliated with any religious or political institutions.

We are here to share the journey to acceptance with you. We are committed to giving support to each other as we discover and understand more about being human. We seek to change attitudes and to create an environment of understanding so that our GLBT family members and friends can live with dignity and respect.

Our Mission

  • Support Families — working to keep families in loving relationships by helping them understand and affirm their gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender family members.
  • Educate the Public – seeking to dispel myths and misinformation by providing programs such as our Speakers’ Bureau, Safe Schools and Straight for Equality.
  • Advocate for Equality — calling for equal human and civil rights.

Everyone is welcome at our meetings. Along with parents and GLBTs, these meetings also include allies, children, spouses, grandparents, and siblings. PFLAG literature is available, we have a free lending library and our members receive a quarterly newsletter. Contact us if you have questions, suggestions or complaints. You always have a home at PFLAG Atlanta.
