Event description

Description

This charity event benefits the mission of 10 CAN, Inc. It is a way for participants to "show" their gratitude for our deployed troops, who live in the grind 24/7. It is open to other nonprofits that want to show their commitment to their cause (raising funds for their mission). Welcome to 10 CAN's 4th annual Survival Race for Heroes. All are welcome, but ENTER at Your Own RISK. Wilderness Survival and Extreme Adventures pose great risk to life and limb. Following instructions and staying within the boundaries lower those risk. This is an extreme adventure race that covers almost 50 miles of land and water in two days, with an overnight remote campsite named "Camp Butters" (in honor of the 2016 Ultimate Warrior - Andi Butters). All race divisions begin at Blue Springs Park with a land navigation course and obstacles. Expert and Novice divisions are required to ruck their gear to each checkpoint. The Recreational division may participate in the land nav. or skip ahead to the river course. All competitors will drag or carry their vessels approximately 100 yards to the water, then begin paddling down the Santa Fe River. Your destination is aprox. 10 miles down river. You will be graded on survival skills at this point (Primitive Survival Rating). Expert's must demonstrate and execute survival skills. Novice must demonstrate survival skills, but may rely on manufactured items. Recreationalist will be given a short-course in primitive survival, and may bring items of luxury. This event sets the stage for survivalist to showcase their skills against other survival experts, for athletes to test their strength and endurance, and for beginners to have fun while supporting children of American Heroes. Recreational participants are welcome to finish at Camp Butters and be picked up, or may continue with the course. However, if you begin the day two course - you must finish it. The next morning will begin launch sequences at 0530hrs. All divisions must be on the water by 0700hrs (weather permitting). You will paddle to the Suwannee River, then head downstream to the finish line at Hart Springs (approximately 30 miles). Closing ceremony, awards presentation, and an after-party will follow. Boat: Kayak, Canoe, or SUP Divisions: Expert, Novice, and Recreational categories. Single, double, and teams of four or more are all welcome. Single's only in Expert category. Singles and doubles authorized in all other categories. Teams of four or more only authorized in Recreational category. Gear Restrictions: No firearms (except LEO cleared by race Director), no drugs or alcohol, other restrictions may apply. Must clear a medical survey prior to participating. Medical equipment for ALL categories is allowed and does not count against weight restrictions. Expert category has a 10lb max ruck sack weight limit. Novice has no weight limit. A day two sustenance pack can be checked in during registration for all categories, and will be delivered to Camp Butters. Registration and inprocessing begins March 3rd at 0800hrs/8am at Blue Springs Park in High Springs, FL. Rules: Follow all Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation, Federal, State, and District rules. Race Director may disqualify and dismiss competitors who display unethical, immoral, or hazardous conditions. This is a family friendly event.
