Event description

Description

How do you react when you hear the word ‘surrender’? What about the word ‘guidance’?
Most of us grew up in a world where surrender meant weakness and submission and guidance was given by those who “knew better” or were more dominant than we were. And so that is all we knew of relationships. But true relationship, true surrender, true guidance are more of a dance between equals, between us and something more expansive and universally connected, and in order for us participate skillfully in the dance we have to learn the art of sacred listening. This half-day retreat is a journey of surrender and a practice of sacred listening, to both our inner landscape and the rich, textured world around us. There will be yoga, sound bath meditation, discussion, and periods of quiet reflection. We will end our time together with a nourishing lunch.

About Kate:

Kate Powell, founder of Wild Sacred Journey (www.wildsacredjourney.com), follows the voice of her soul, wherever it leads. At times it has led her on off-the-beaten path adventures. At other times it has gotten her lost in darkness and confusion, turning her own power against herself. Through beauty and pain, the sacred and the messy, she has journeyed around the world and come home to her own deep, sensitive heart. It was while she was lost in the darkness of disconnection, depression, and body image issues that she discovered a deeper connection with land and food, yoga, meditation, and energy medicine. She has logged over 1,000 hours of teaching experience with yoga group classes, privates, workshops, and retreats since 2013. In November of 2017, after completing about 500hrs of training in Integrative Energetic Medicine and Coaching, she expanded her offerings and opened her private practice to clients seeking deeper healing and more soulful living. Kate has done the deep work herself that allows her to be a strong, compassionate presence for students and clients and gives her a wide range of tools to guide those she works with back into embodying their truth, trust, vulnerability, and playful, sacred Love. In addition to her original yoga vinyasa certification, Kate has some background in Nidra, Restorative, Yin, Gentle Flow, Yoga Personal Training, and meditation. She has also begun to expand the foundations of indigenous wisdom traditions in her practice as an energy healer. She is currently renovating an '86 RV in preparation for a nomadic life.

About Jennifer:

Jennifer Hudson is the owner and creator of Love Notes Music Therapy (www.lovenotesmusictherapy.com). Her love for music began thirty-three years ago when she started taking piano lessons at the age of seven. When she was sixteen years old her passion for music lead her to a cathartic moment wherein she saw clearly that her life’s work would include music. This passion combined with her genuine love of people made it easy for her to devote her life to using sound and music for healing and wellness.
Since completing her bachelor’s degree at Radford University in the year 2000 and becoming a Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) in 2001 she has worked with people from all walks of life with a wide variety of challenges using music and sound to support their healing and awakening process. In her fifteen year career she has served people with Alzheimer’s Disease, Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, addiction, terminal illness, difficulty coping with grief and loss, chronic stress, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, Intellectual Disability, Downs Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy. Over her years of experience Jennifer has noticed a common thread amongst all of the people she serves- we all long for authentic connection with others and to remember that we are Love. This realization has inspired her to develop her Music Therapy practice to incorporate elements of various modalities including sound healing, mindfulness, meditation, yoga, art, Reiki, and dance.
In addition to being a MT-BC some of Jennifer’s other professional endeavors include becoming an ordained inter-faith minister for the TLC Community in 2014, being certified to offer the Oneness Blessing in 2013, attending Kirtan college with David Newman to learn to lead call and response Bhakti Yoga chant in 2012, becoming a certified Peer Support Specialist in 2016, and becoming a Reiki Master Practitioner in 2018. She has also developed her own methods and style for leading meditation groups, community drum and dance circles, and using crystal singing bowls for meditation and sound healing.
Jennifer seeks to bring mindful Presence and authentic communication to every individual she interacts with. When working with others to support their healing process she integrates the variety of traditional and non-traditional methods she has learned and practiced on a personal and professional level. Her personal mission is to use music and sound to encourage awakening, authentic connection, and full spectrum self-expression.
