About this Event

Did you know nearly 1 in 60 children are on the autism spectrum? What about that a child with autism is 2.5 times more likely to enter foster care than a neurotypical youth? Join VOICES and University of Arizona’s adjunct professor in Disability and Psychoeducational Studies, Sherry Mulholland, MA, as she educates CASA volunteers on the behaviors and experiences that many children with Autism have and how to help support them. Specifically, this presentation will explain the connection between Autism and anxiety and what that means for the classroom. Additionally, CASA volunteers will learn ways to support their youth’s sensory needs, creating and using visual schedules, developing and using social stories, and accommodating and modifying general education curriculum to support children on the Autism Spectrum. Bring all your Autism-related questions!

*Note: a small lunch will be provided
