Supporting Transgender and Gender Expansive Youth
Sat, May 6, 2017, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM CDT
This day-long conference will provide attendees with an overview of what it means to be a child or youth who is transgender or gender expansive. The conference will cover a variety of topics, with a focus on the personal experiences of families and students and how our communities and schools can create safe, healthy and welcoming spaces for our gender expansive youth. The day will also include a parent and youth panel.
The conference will kick off with all participants gaining a deeper understanding of gender basics. Additional general sessions include presentations by staff at the Pediatric & Adolescent Trans Health Clinic (PATH Clinic) and a panel of youth who are transgender or gender expansive.
Breakout sessions dive deeper into welcoming elementary schools and gender inclusive middle and high schools; suicide prevention and mental health care; as well as transgender youth legal advocacy and policy updates.
The day will also include an art workshop for adolescents to explore their gender identity through art.
The conference agenda with session descriptions is available here. Registration includes a boxed lunch.
