Supporting Families Through Grief & Loss

Dr. Pamela Gabbay, author of Understanding and Supporting Bereaved Children: A Practical Guide for Professionals, will be providing workshops for anyone interested in supporting people dealing with grief and loss. Dr. Gabbay will cover topics such as the unique challenges around bereavement after a loss due to suicide or an overdose and childhood bereavement. She will offer practical strategies and interventions for those supporting bereaved families, and supporting grieving students in a school setting.

Two daytime sessions, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., will be focused on treating children and families dealing with greif. These workshops are geared to therapists, social workers, educators and other professionals.

*Each daytime session will contain the same information.

An evening session from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. will be offered for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding on how support children and families dealing with grief. Participants will leave with tools to support friends and loved ones as well as a better understanding of resources availabe to them in the community.

These workshops are part of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Family Wellness Series.

Dr. Gabbay is a childhood bereavement consultant and part of the national Training Corps for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Formerly, Dr. Gabbay was the Director of the Mourning Star Center for Grieving Children and served as Camp Director for a bereavement camp for children in Palm Springs, CA. She also served two terms on the Board of Directors of the National Alliance for Grieving Children. Dr. Gabbay served as the President of the Southern California Chapter of the Association for Death Education and Counseling. She is the co-author, along with Andy McNiel, of Understanding and Supporting Bereaved Children: A Practical Guide for Professionals.
