Event description

Description

NAPAC (the National Association for People Abused in Childhood) is a UK-wide charity offering support to adults who suffered any type of abuse in childhood.

Responding to demand from around the country, we offer a specialist training course, Supporting Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse (SASCA), to individual professionals working with adults who suffered physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse or neglect in childhood.

The SASCA course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, the Royal Society for Public Health and the Royal College of Nursing,

This one-day workshop, limited to 20 places, is aimed at any professionals who are working directly with adult survivors of abuse, or those studying a relevant subject, to deepen their knowledge about the impact of abuse in adulthood and to feel more confident in facilitating disclosures from clients.

NAPAC has trained professionals in the NHS, community health services, councils, police, social care, religious institutions, boarding schools and prison and probation services The SASCA course is suitable for counsellors, therapists and any other mental health or addiction practitioners, ISVAs, police officers, safeguarding officers, support workers, housing officers as well as third sector staff and volunteers. We have received excellent feedback from all of these groups.

The SASCA course (6.5 CPD hours) will enhance your professional development by offering you a greater understanding of how to work compassionately and effectively with survivors so you can improve and broaden your competence, knowledge and skills, feel more confident in handling first disclosures of abuse, and apply trauma-informed principles.

Two experienced facilitators will share NAPAC’s knowledge of working with abuse survivors over the past two decades and address many of the issues that professionals encounter when engaging with adult survivors. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, role play, and learn from the experience of other professionals in the room.
