Event Details

This workshop is designed to equip supervisors of direct care providers and lead staff in child welfare set-tings (e.g. supervising social workers, facility managers, group home administrators) with skills to ensure quality care and supervision of children placed in out-of-home care. Participants will learn specific strate-gies to support the development of direct care providers to increase the quality of care and supervision provided to children in their program. It will equip participants with knowledge and skills to establish high professional standards, and enhance quality and culturally competent services.

With the current workforce crisis in our country it is more important than ever for organizations to develop competent and highly effective supervisors. This highly interactive course is a blend of the Effective Supervisory Practice curriculum that was devised by Dr. Floyd Alwon and the Professionally Packaged Supervision materials developed by Frank Delano and Jill Shah. These courses are designed for entry level supervisors as well as much more experienced supervisors/directors from a wide range of human service organizations and a wide range of disciplines. Participants will be asked to formulate to two "action plans" that they will commit do in the four months following the training. Fee includes after the course and chance for e-mail contact with trainer for advice with the plans.

Topics include: Coaching as a supervisory technique, motivational interviewing skills, developing trust, avoiding the pitfalls of micro-managing, self-assessment tools, leadership decision making process, inter-generational supervision, strategies to attract and develop millennials across the organization.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

(a) Define the characteristics of recruiting and maintaining care providers for supervision of children in out-of-home care providers that serves their best interests

(b) Monitor and apply strategies to improve the quality of care for children in out-of-home settings as relevant to the coaching and feedback provided to foster parents and care providers
